Exposures Photography 2024: A Photography Juried Exhibit at Lawrence Street Gallery

Lawrence Street Gallery's Annual Exposures Photography Show is back again.  This open photography show is a staple of our gallery and a longstanding Spring tradition.  So many stories are unlocked through the photographs in this exhibition at Lawrence Street Gallery in April. The work in this show will stretch the viewer’s imagination and memory of what we see and what we really see.

The juror for this exhibit will be Sandra Kay Young.

Sandra Kay Young  and her family came to Detroit from Tennessee in 1953. Her photographs are in numerous private and corporate collections, The Detroit Institute of Arts, the University of Michigan, TCF Center (formerly the Cobo Regional Convention) in Detroit and the Kresge Foundation. Young has curated and judged numerous art exhibitions.

Her images have graced the covers of numerous books and magazines on music, poetry, and art. She has had five solo shows, including The Detroit Institute of Arts in 1998, sponsored by the Fuji and Chrysler Corporation. In 2014 Young and her students were featured and won an Emmy on PBS ‘Detroit Performs’. From 2019-2024 Young has held an artist residency with Michigan Arts Access, teaching photography and multi-media disciplines to neurodivergent adults. In 2022 Kay co-curated and was a major contributor for the exhibition ‘Detroit Underground 69, the First Wave of Punk’ at the Metropolitan Museum of Design Detroit.
