As a self-taught artist, Van Gorp says he starts out by smearing paint on a canvas using an “intuitive painting style.” An image eventually will appear to him and, “the rest comes together like a jigsaw puzzle.”
He started drawing as a child after an eye operation at the age of 2. Van Gorp had trouble seeing perspectives, because one eye focuses at distance and the other focuses close up. His doctor suggested that drawing would help his eyes work together. He has been drawing ever since.
