Light Dance on the Persimmon Tree

Fresh and light yet bold and contemporary, Foster gathers you into her painting
world. Her show title says it all as the light dances through each of her
watercolors, magnifying the bright colors of the persimmon. In her words, "I was
inspired by a chance encounter with the California sun shining through the
beautiful, overlapping persimmon leaves. In late November, they were
multicolored and animated by a soft, lovely breeze. As I watched, composition
after light filled composition moved and changed into ones that were even more
dazzling. I ran for my camera!”

This is Sherry Foster’s third one-woman show at Lawrence Street. With classes at
Birmingham Bloomfield Art Center since 1985, Foster found wonderful artists that
inspired major leaps in her art development. She is a signature member of the
Michigan WaterColor Society, member of the Birmingham Society of Women
Painters, Michigan Fine Artists, BBAC, and Lawrence Street Gallery. Foster’s
paintings have been accepted into many juried shows including Michigan Fine
Arts, Our Town, and the Michigan WaterColor Society, where this year she was
honored to claim a major award.

“From the beginning of my art career, I’ve been drawn to strong, directional
lighting, saturated color, and high contrast compositions, so, you can see why the
backlit persimmon tree became an obsession for me."
