secret lives of images: Joseph McGivern

“Art should change lives” to quote Joseph McGivern, solo exhibitionist for the month of July. McGivern is a contemporary, colored pencil and graphic artist, specializing in surrealistic flows incorporating iconic elements. Recently his work also includes ink dip pen.

“Since I can remember, I have felt an emotional connection to color and shape. Naturally drawn to the Surrealistic movement, I saw the power of fine line and brilliant perspective applied to seemingly limitless human creativity.” McGivern’s work is a series of inspirations over time evoking forgotten memories and formative emotions. Images are woven together and presented in a highly detailed natural scene, a poetic visual journey.

McGivern’s precision in the work stems from his professional work in classical mechanical drawing, drafting skills and engineering at Michigan Technological University. Joseph’s engineering career has spanned microprocessor design, engineering startups and award winning industry innovations.
