Colleen Sanders

I earned my B.A. degree in Art, as well as my Michigan Teaching certificate for Grades K-12 at Aquinas College in Grand Rapids, Michigan.
I have taught Art to all ages. Most recently, working specifically with adults with no prior Art experience, and seeing their amazing progress in just a matter of weeks, has been extremely rewarding.
Previously, being the Art Director for an Art Studio for people with disabilities called “Paint A Miracle”, located in Rochester, Michigan, was a life changing experience.
Currently, being a Faculty member of the Birmingham Bloomfield Art Center is both an honor and a privilege.
When not teaching, I enjoy creating with a variety of media, including Figurative Sculpture in clay, Oil Painting, Collage with Photo Transfer, and Mono Printing using a variety of methods including Pochoir, Chine Colle’, and Gel Plate.
Entering Art Shows is something I have always enjoyed. One that gave me the most pride was an International Art Competition known as “Artprize” in Grand Rapids, Michigan, where I had my work shown three years in a row.
Winning awards in various competitions along the way, is always a thrill.
I thoroughly get into “the flow” when making Art. Different substrates like the pages from a Piano Book, Canvas, Decorative Papers, and even Furniture give me unique challenges. Using expressive and vibrant colors help to tell my stories.
Now I am thrilled to be member of the well acclaimed Lawrence Street Gallery.
