“Paint what you see, not what you think you see” are words that I live by. I also believe that if I am drawn to a particular scene, this emotion will be reflected in the painting.
I paint mainly waterscapes, landscapes, snow scenes and florals. As a studio painter, I shoot many photos that I can refer to. This allows me to work on a number of paintings simultaneously so that I will have “fresh eyes” when returning to a piece. I have always appreciated the beauty of old weathered buildings and anything that has been ravaged by nature itself and like to make these the focus of my piece.
I was born in Ann Arbor, Michigan and attended the University of Michigan, where I received a Bachelor of Science degree in Design. I also did post graduate work at Wayne State University and the University of Michigan. My interest in art started at an early age. As a first grader, I had a painting in a student exhibition at the Detroit Institute of Arts. I have always thought that this was my first “spark” of encouragement!
I am also available on a commission basis.
